New Year's Day (continued): Fern the Siegemaster, Juan de Fulmando, and Thaddeus Young prepared for combat with the group of six who had threatened Professor Chalk, while Chalk retreated. Thaddeus cast a spell that left the ground where the six stood glistening; when asked by his companions what it was, he told them, "Grease, it's very slick, don't walk there." Two of the six struggled, two fell, one slid out of the area, and another stepped out and advanced toward the party.
Fern stood her ground while Juan moved toward one of the people, and Thaddeus cast another slippery spell where some of the adversaries were attempting to go. Juan fought one of the attackers who hit him with a large knife and injured his torso, although not badly. Juan swung his sword, and hit him back. Fern hit one of the adversaries with her knife. People began gathering around to watch, although at a distance.
Juan hit his attacker again, and the man surrendered, although he yelled, "Sardaster help me!" Thaddeus recognized Sardaster as a prophet who was popular with simple people to the southwest. He promises heaven in return for a rough life on earth. Sardaster was considered heretical by Divine Circle standards. Thaddeus spoke to Fern about "the better part of valour" and "curfew," but Fern stayed in the battle and stabbed an opponent a couple of times. The group heard the clatter of hooves approaching from the east.
Fern grabbed and pinned a prone man who yelled, "Piss off you heathen bastards!" Thaddeus again spoke of Fern's curfew, but Fern threatened her opponent. Juan hit the prone man twice with his sword, knocking the man unconscious, then later shield slammed another. Thaddeus started dispelling the "grease." A mounted officer of the Trynser City Municipal Force dealt with one of the group of attackers, and sliced off his head.
The end results was two of the attackers were dead, two were captured and treated for injury by Thaddeus and/or Juan, who also treated himself, and two escaped, one of them slashing a civilian as he fled. (Citadel's Shadow II adventure 2018 12 06)
