Storm audrea

Map of the area of Delctra's Cauldron Borough damaged by Storm Audrea. In general, the closer to the center of the circle, the greater was the storm.

This storm was part of a playtest for GURPS Disasters: Hurricane.

Storm Audrea was a violent storm that hit Delctra's Cauldron Borough of Trynser City on Ulthrane 33, 1742. The storm, which reached full force at the intersection of Commerce Boulevard and Marketplace Low Road, caused severe damage and resulted in the deaths of over 50 people.

Officials of Trynser City determined that the cause of the storm, as it centering on a relatively small area of the city, was unnatural. Clouds had been seen being blown over the road, and did not stop until they were over Balsten Arms Building, a seven-story tenement building. Then winds and rain began to quickly increase. By the end of the storm, the building was completely destroyed, and many of its residents were killed.

The building had caught on fire the day before, Ulthrane 32, during an attack on "street teacher" Professor Chalk who had lived there with his student Kyrie Kelevan. The attack was made by a number of worshipers who followed Sardaster, and who were violently opposed to Chalk's teachings. Those who fought the fire and/or the worshipers included Audrea Daleos, Fern the Siegemaster, Jinxi, Juan de Fulmando, Minigallith Atakares, Sly Delgarro, mages with the Imperial Corps of Mages, and Master Pei Zhing. Elder Brice "Red" Westhowl prophecized during the fire that a violent storm was coming which did, in fact, come the next day.

Among the worst hit buildings were (generally moving from least to most damaged) Trynser City Municipal Force and other city offices (although these had been partially protected so weren't as damaged as they might have been); Krymm's Quality Furniture; The Duck & Cover Inn; and the Commerce Crossing office and retail building on Commerce Blvd. which included The Paper Grotto, Master Pei Zhing's Magic School, office of Attorney at Law Sir Lyus Sleyden, Oswald's, Brenna Hauvis (violin lessons), although windows at the top two floors were fully intact. In significantly worse shape were Razda's Lharasian Eats (which was virtually flattened); Sands of Suledaria (Suledarian themed restaurant and coffee shop); and the virtually destroyed Balsten Arms Building.

Furthermore, the full brunt of the storm fell upon the watershed of the tiny Rasmar River, which created a flash flood that washed down to the Imperial Western Road on the eastern border of Delctra's Cauldron Borough. The small culvert could not allow the water out quickly enough, and a flood occurred as a result. Several buildings were damaged, including Madame Maude Lynn's Theater of Thrills. Some indigents living along the side of the river were drowned.

After the storm had passed, Trynser City Municipal Force Sgt. Zachary Black questioned Audrea Daleos, Jinxi, and Juan de Fulmando. This was in regard to "calling on foreign weather gods" and casting "weather spells" (specifically lighting) against Sardaster followers during the previous day's fire. While they were cleared, the initial suspicion laid on Audrea, combined with the storm occurring on her birthday, led to the storm being named "Storm Audrea." The name was coined as a wisecrack by the jester Jinxi in the company of TCMF officers and other Cauldron officials, who having no other way to refer to it, made the name official.

Following a thorough investigation, city authorities announced that the storm was caused by foreign priests and mages.

Events are described in more detail at Citadel's Shadow II, Session 32 and Citadel's Shadow II, Session 33. The storm was part of a playtest for ''GURPS Disasters: Hurricane'.''
