The Witch on a Stick was a tavern located on the northern side of the Delctra's Cauldron Borough in Paytern Hill Ward in Trynser City. It was located in the Hartshall Building on Rasmar's Stream Street, near the end of Draghorse Lane. In 1742 it shared the building with Cauldron Delternan Glassware and Umpfel's Jellybeanery.

The tavern's sign depicted a somewhat scantily clad witch tied to a stake while an old-style priest approaches with a torch. This was something that was done just outside at the intersection with Draghorse Lane during the witch hunts of the 1500's.

The tavern was owned by Giles Mumfret from 1738. His disappearance in early 1742 had put his continued ownership in jeopardy. He supplemented the tavern's too small stock room by renting a storage space from a dwarf named Vilburd Gruskin who owned Packer's Cave. He was apparently in the company of Gruskin when both disappeared during the Rat Plague of 1742. Mr. Mumfret was rescued soon after from the clutches of a rat king, but he was in no mental condition to continue operating the tavern and the Witch on a Stick closed on Ulthrane 16th, 1742.

However, a sign appeared on the closed business that said it was reopening under new ownership on Ulthrane 33, 1742. The business did reopen that day, with Giles returning as manager, although it was unknown if he was still owner (mage and conspiracy theorist Rajesh Pridoni expressed a suspicion that Giles had secretly been replaced by a double). The business suffered no damage that day from Storm Audrea.

The food here was slightly pricey, but of good quality, better than the slop which was the lot of the common rabble. Meals included:

  • The Witch on a Stick: A chicken, beef and pork skewer for 8 dragons
  • The Witches' Familiar: Catfish / crayfish skewer for 7 dragons

Other than Mumfret, who was the most frequent bartender, the tavern employed (in early 1742):

  • Horace Mems, chef
  • Maisey Days, waitress
  • Lucia Days, waitress. Maisey's daughter
  • Dalla, wami halfling waitress and baker
  • Chonk, half-orc bartender and security
